A historic moment took place at the World Assembly of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) held in Korea, where a key proposal to strengthen its global leadership structure was approved by a wide majority. The decision came after deliberations concluded on October 29 and 30.
Unanimous Proposal from Nine Global Regions
This crucial initiative was the result of the joint work of the Regional General Secretaries (RGS) representing all nine regions of the WEA:
- Latin America
- Europe
- North America
- South Pacific
- Africa
- Asia
- Middle East and North Africa
- Caribbean
- Central Asia
The regional leaders, acting in unity, presented a formal proposal to consolidate the role and position of the Regional Evangelical Alliances (REAs) within the organization.

New Constitutional Article Approved
The proposal, officially presented to the World Assembly, culminated in the approval of Article V to be added to the WEA Constitution, which states:
Article V. The Regional Evangelical Alliances (REAs) are integral partners of the Secretary General within the Global Leadership structure of the WEA, in order to fulfill the WEA’s vision and mission. Their role is to connect, consult, and collaborate with the Secretary General, as described in the Comprehensive Partnership Covenant.
The Assembly’s strong and favorable vote affirms the need for the REAs to be recognized as essential partners of the Secretary General. This formalization ensures that the connection, consultation, and collaboration outlined in the Comprehensive Partnership Covenant will serve as foundational pillars to advance the WEA’s global vision and mission—without diminishing the authority and prerogatives of the National Alliances.
The approval of this article represents a renewed commitment to unity, representation, and effective collaboration in the global evangelical mission.
